The Indian Coast Guard is responsible to safeguard and protect the coastline of India which includes 9 states (Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal) and 2 union territories (Daman and Diu and Puducherry).
Currently, the Indian Coast Guard operates 10 air enclaves, 5 air stations and 42 coastal line stations across India. The Indian coastline spans a distance of 7516.60 km which is also one of the busiest routes in the World. The Indian Coast Guard is managed and monitored by the Ministry of Defense.

The Interim Indian Coast Guard was established on 1st February 1977 to protect the maritime of India. However, it came into being under the Coast Guard Act 1978 on 19th August 1978.
