The Indian coastline spans a distance of 7516.60 km which is also one of the busiest routes in the World. The Indian Coast Guard is managed and monitored by the Ministry of Defense.

The Interim  Indian Coast Guard was established on 1st February 1977 to protect the maritime of India. However, it came into being under the Coast Guard Act 1978 on 19th August 1978.
