Who was Sarojini Naidu?

Sarojini Naidu is a celebrated author and poet whose contribution to literature is world-renowned. Born on 13th February 1879 in Hyderabad to a Bengali family, grew up to become one of the notable literary figures of her times. She married  Muthyala Govindarajulu Naidu in 1898. She was a political activist, feminist, poet, and the first Indian woman to be president of the Indian National Congress and to be appointed an Indian state governor after India attained independence.

In 2014, India celebrated its first National Womens Day on 13th February on the occasion of the 135th Birth Anniversary of Sarojini Naidu. She has inspired the youths of her time and the later generations as well through her works of literature and her dedication to the country. He devoted her life to India’s Independence.

Sarojini Naidu has been one of the most prominent figures in Indian Politics. She joined Indian National Congress after she met Mahatma Gandhi who inspired her. By 1925 she became the President of Congress. She was also awarded the Kaiser-i-Hind by the British government in 1928 for his actions during the plague epidemic in India.
