Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was one of the biggest names and personalities of the Indian Freedom Movement. He was the only Indian to form an army to fight against the British Rule that strategically threatened the future of British Rule in India. Netaji inspired thousands of youth to fight for the Freedom of India. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s Birthday
Cuttack, Odisha is the birthplace of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. He was born to Prabhavati Dutt Bose and Janakinath Bose on 23rd January. Janakinath Bose, father of Subhas Chandra Bose was a successful advocate and later he was given the title of Rai Bahadur which he later relinquished.
Prabhavati Dutt Bose was a social activist and politician and she played a significant role in the education and upbringing of her eight sons and six daughters including Subhas Chandra Bose.
Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Biography
Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose studied at Protestant European School (presently Stewart High School) in Cuttack sling with his siblings. He graduated from Presidency College and went to England to study at the University of Cambridge and prepare for the Indian Civil Service. He cleared the Prelims of the Indian Civil Service however, never appeared for the Mains Exam in order to join the Indian Freedom Movement under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi.
He later left Indian National Congress after he had a conflict of interest and ideology with Gandhi ji and his followers and later formed a Forward Bloc in 1939. His constant protests and staunch ideology led to his arrest in July 1940. He was released from prison when his health deteriorated due to a prolonged hunger strike. Thus, he was put under house arrest in his home in Calcutta from where he escaped and reached Berlin via Moscow to form an army and take help from the Axis Forces to crumble British Rule over India.
Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Achievement
He lived in Germany for a few years and tried to seek Germany’s help. However, later he left for Japan to seek their help and formed Azad Hind Fauj also known as Indian National Army. He was supported by Rash Bihari Bose, an Indian Revolutionary, who had escaped to Japan and tried to unite the Indian living in southeast Asia to fight for their motherland and formed the Indian Independence League. Subhas Chandra Bose took the leadership of the Indian Independence League from Rash Bihari Bose.
When Japan captured Andaman, he went there and hoisted Indian Flag. He lead the INA with 45000 soldiers and tried to enter India from North East. He had initial successes against the Britisher and INA was able to enter up to Kohima. When he first landed in the Indian Territory, bowed down to kiss his motherland passionately.
Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s Death
Unfortunately, he and INA had to retreat when Japan surrendered after the USA dropped the Nuclear Bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He later tried to contact the Russians to seek support for INA and his Freedom Movement with the help of the Japanese. He planned to fly from Singapore to Japan and had to change flights due to security issues. As the official Japanese Statement, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose dies on 18th August 1945 in Japanese-ruled Formosa (now Taiwan) in a plane crash.
Though many Indian particularly from the Bengali community didn’t believe this narrative and still deny to believe in it which has led to the birth of many conspiracy theories.
