The full form of PMMMNMTT is Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching. This is a national sector scheme programme that covers all of India. During the XII Plan, the scheme started in 2014–15 and lasted for three years, from 2014–15 to 2016–17. The idea of the mission is also to inculcate management and leadership in schools and higher education institutes.

- To establish a coordinated strategy employing the finest practices for excellence to address the teacher and teaching shortcomings across the educational spectrum.
- Enhancing institutional mechanisms (Schools of Education, Institutes of Academic Leadership and Education Management, Subject-based Networks, Teaching-Learning Centres, etc.) at the Centre and in the States to improve faculty training, discipline building, and regular evaluation for excellence.
- Educators and faculty are to be strengthened by training, retraining, refresher, and orientation courses in general skills, pedagogical skills, discipline-specific content upgrading, ICT and technology enabled training.
