Shaheed Diwas 2023 History

The history of Shaheed Diwas 2023 dates back to the Pre-Independence era of India when three young revolutionaries were hanged to death by the oppressive British Rulers. These three young revolutionaries were Bhagat Singh, Shivram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar. At a very early age, all three of them devoted their lives to the cause of India’s Freedom.

They were tried for the Lahore Conspiracy case and hurling bombs at the Central Assembly Hall. At the conclusion of the trial, the trio was sentenced to death.

On 23rd March 1931, they were hanged to death although their bodies were never returned to their families. Controversy ensued when the jail authorities removed their bodies and cremated them in the dark near Ganda Singh Wala village and threw the ashes in the Sutlej river. At the time of their death, Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev Thapar were 23 years old while Shivram Rajguru was only 22 years old.

The immense contribution of Bhagat Singh, Shivram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar towards the Freedom Struggle of India has been inspirational for the younger generation. The trio successfully ignited the flames of patriotism in the hearts of the youth of India that eventually amalgamated in India’s Independence in 1947. After the death of the trio, there was a massive ideological shift among the younger generation who were ready to sacrifice their lives to attain Freedom for their Motherland.

The sacrifice of three young people (as young as 23 and 22 years old) in pursuit of freedom for their Motherland left a huge mark on the hearts of the people of India. Even today their sacrifice is remembered and their courage and devotion to the Motherland are celebrated.
