The maximum DSSSB PGT Age Limit had been reduced to 30 years during the DSSSB Recruitment 2022. The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) has asked for clarification from the Delhi Government, Lt. Governor and UPSC on the matter. This comes after more than 30 candidates challenged the decision of reducing the maximum DSSSB PGT Age Limit to 30 years.
In 2022 DSSSB has released Teaching Vacancies for various posts. There were many changes in the recruitment policy and among them the most striking change was the reduction of the maximum DSSSB PGT Age Limit. Earlier, the maximum DSSSB PGT Age Limit was 36 years and the DSSSB had reduced it to 30 years.
Now, CAT has decided to consider the petition filed by the students. According to the petition, lakhs of Delhi Teaching Aspirants will be affected by the reduction of the maximum DSSSB PGT Age Limit.
The petitioners have also stated the maximum PGT Age Limit set by various other State Governments to rationalise their claim. Accordingly, the maximum PGT Age Limit set by various State Governments vary from 35 years to 45 years. There is no maximum age limit for PGT posts in Uttar Pradesh.
The maximum Age Limit for PGT posts in Himachal Pradesh is 45 years, Telangana is 44 years, Assam is 43 years, and Uttarakhand is 42 years. The maximum PGT Age Limit in Rajasthan, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh is 40 years while the Kendriya Vidyalaya has 35 years as their maximum age limit for PGT Post.
In 1975, Delhi Government had set 36 years as the maximum age limit for the post of PGT but it was reduced to 30 years in September 2022.
The PGT aspirants in Delhi who didn’t make the revised age limit criteria are disheartened as they will become deprived of the opportunity. It is to be noted that the eligibility criteria for PGT include Post Graduate degree along with a BEd degree and it takes at least 25 years of age to attain the qualification required. Therefore, this decision narrows down the opportunity window for the PGT aspirants in Delhi.
