22nd Law Commission of India Term Extended by Cabinet
22nd Law Commission of India: Law Commission is a non-statutory body created by executive resolution of the central government. Law Commission of India is also important for UPSC Prelims Exam 2023 and UPSC Mains Exam (GS Paper 2- Indian Constitution: Various constitutional, statutory, non-statutory and judicial bodies).
The Union Cabinet chaired by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, approved the extension of the term of the Twenty-second Law Commission of India upto 31st August, 2024.
The Chairperson and Members of the Twenty-second Law Commission have joined office recently. Law Commission Chairman have taken up several pending projects for examination and report which are still the work in progress.
A retired Supreme Court judge or Chief Justice of any High Court heads the commission (acts as chairperson). 22nd Law Commission Composition consists of the following composition-
Since the independence of India, there have been 22 Law Commissions. Recently, the 22nd Law commission has been established. Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi is appointed as the chairperson, who was the Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court till July 2022.

The central government issue an executive resolution for the formation a new commission after the expiry of the last one. After the resolution is passed , and the President gives assent to it, the government has the liberty to choose the chairperson for the new commission.
