- On February 13, 2023, PM Modi, inaugurated the 14th addition of Aero India 2023, Bengaluru Airshow, at IAF Yelahanka Airforce Station, in Bengaluru on February 13, 2023.
- This 14th edition of the Aero India 2023 event is being organised from February 13 to 17, 2023 to highlight India’s expanding aerospace and defence capabilities.
About Aero India show 2023
- Aero India show is held in every 2 years.
- On behalf of the Department of Defence Production of the Ministry of Defence, Aero India is being organised by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) this year.
- Major exhibitors include defence and aircraft manufacturing companies like Airbus, Boeing, Dassault Aviation, Lockheed Martin, Israel Aerospace Industry, BrahMos Aerospace, Army Aviation, HC Robotics, SAAB, Safran, Rolls Royce, Larsen & Toubro, Bharat Forge Limited, Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) and BEML Limited.
- The event aims to promote export of indigenous air platforms like Light Combat Aircraft (LCA)-Tejas, HTT-40, Dornier Light Utility Helicopter (LUH), Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) and Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH).
- It will integrate domestic MSMEs and start-ups in the global supply chain and attract foreign investments including partnerships for co-development and co-production.

- About: Aero India as a premier global aviation trade fair, which provides an opportunity for the Indian aviation-defence industry, including the aerospace industry, to showcase its products, technologies and solutions to the national decision makers.
- Organizer: Bengaluru-based defence PSU Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) will organise the event, in which exhibitors from across the world are expected to take part.
- Duration and location: The 14th edition of the Aero India 2023 event is being organised in Bengaluru in a grand manner between February 13 and 17, 2023.
- Participation: Besides the major entrepreneurs and investors in the defence and aerospace industries, the event will witness participation of prominent defence think-tanks and defence-related bodies from across the world.

- BrahMos Aerospace: Showcasing the models of the air-launched version of BrahMos supersonic cruise missile along with BrahMos NG missile.
- HLFT-42: HAL is showcasing the supersonic trainer aircraft named HLFT-42 full-scale model at Aero India.
- Jetpack Suits: A model of a soldier wearing a jetpack being developed by an Indian start-up will be inaugurated. The Indian Army has issued a tender to buy 48 jetpacks for troops deployed along the northern borders.
What Is Hindustan Lead in Fighter Trainer (HLFT)-42?
- Hindustan Lead in Fighter Trainer (HLFT)-42, is a project conceived by defence PSU Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL)
- This project was conceived in 2017. This is completely designed by the HAL
- The HLFT-42 is the ‘Next Gen Supersonic Trainer’ will play a critical role in modern combat aircraft training equipped with state-of-the-art avionics like Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA), Electronic Warfare (EW) Suite, Infrared Search and Track (IRST) with Fly By Wire control (FBW) system.
- The FBW is a system that replaces the conventional manual flight controls of an aircraft with an electronic interface.
- Whereas the IRST is a method to track objects that give off infrared radiation.
- HLFT-42 incorporates an ultra-modern training suite to train all fighter pilots in a safe and efficient flying environment.
Significance of Aero India 2023
In keeping with the motto “Make in India, Make for the World,” Aero India-2023 will this time place a strong emphasis on showcasing homegrown machinery and innovations as well as establishing alliances with foreign businesses.
- 98 countries, 32 defence ministers, 29 air chiefs, and 73 chief executive officers of international and Indian original equipment manufacturers are expected to participate in this, the largest gathering to date.

- Defence Ministers’ Conclave: A Defence Ministers’ Conclave is hosted on February 14. Defence Ministers of friendly foreign countries participated in the meeting, which has been organised on the theme ‘Shared Prosperity through Enhanced Engagements in Defence (SPEED).’
Key Highlights of Defence Ministers’ Conclave
- Who Hosted? Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh hosted the Defence & Deputy Defence Ministers of 27 countries at the Defence Ministers’ Conclave held on the sidelines of Aero India 2023 in Bengaluru on February 14, 2023.
- Theme: The broad theme of the conclave was ‘Shared Prosperity through Enhanced Engagements in Defence’ (SPEED).
- What It Sought? It sought to address aspects related to deepening cooperation for capacity building (through investments, R&D, joint ventures, co-development, co-production and provisioning of defence equipment), training, space, AI and maritime security to grow together.
- Participants? Over 160 delegates from several countries, including Defence & Deputy Defence Ministers from 27 countries, 15 Defence and Service Chiefs and 12 Permanent Secretaries from 80 countries participated in the conclave attesting to India’s tremendous growth and engagement in the defence and security sectors.
