AFINDEX 2023: The Africa-India Field Training Exercise (AFINDEX-2023) is a military exercise conducted between India and Various African Countries. AFINDEX Exercise 2023 is also important for UPSC Prelims Exam 2023 and UPSC Mains Exam (GS Paper 2- International Relations; GS Paper 3- Internal Security).
Recently, the two-week-long Africa-India Field Training Exercise (AFINDEX-2023) came to an end today at the Foreign Training Node in Pune’s Aundh. The AFINDEX-2023 was the second edition of the joint military exercise between India and African Counties.
The AFINDEX exercise has set the tone for increased collaboration and partnership between the Indian and African armies in the coming years. Other key details of the Ex AFINDEX is given below-
Through this joint exercise, the participating armies were able to acquire knowledge and incorporate tactics to perform such operations effectively.

AFINDEX Exercise is a joint military exercise between the Indian Army and African nations aimed at promoting cooperation, sharing of best practices, and enhancing the ability to work together while undertaking Peace Keeping Operations and Humanitarian Mine Action mandated by the United Nations.
AFINDEX-2023 exercise was conducted from March 16 to March 29, 2023.
A total of 25 African nations participated in the AFINDEX-2023 exercise along with Indian troops from the SIKH, MARATHA, and MAHAR Regiments.
The primary aim of the AFINDEX-2023 exercise was to build positive military relations, exchange best practices, and promote the ability to operate together while undertaking Peace Keeping Operations and Humanitarian Mine Action under the UN mandate.
General Manoj Pande, Chief of the Army Staff, along with the Chiefs and representatives from African nations who attended the Chiefs' Conclave, witnessed the validation phase of the AFINDEX-2023 exercise.
The AFINDEX exercise is expected to foster constructive military ties, enhance the ability to work together while undertaking diverse operations, and enable the adoption of methodologies and tactics. The exercise will also assist the forces in correctly interpreting Rules of Engagements while undertaking Peace Keeping Operations. Additionally, it will strengthen the bonds between the armies and enable a better understanding of each other's organization and approach.
