Agneepath Scheme: The concept of “tour of duty” has gained significant attention within the Indian armed services. To further amplify its impact, the Cabinet Committee on Security took a historic decision on May 14, 2022, to launch the experimental program called the “Agneepath” Scheme. The Agneepath Scheme offers a fresh avenue for aspiring young Indians to join the armed services, whether it be the Indian Army, Indian Navy, or Indian Air Force.

The Indian government has opened the Agneepath Army Bharti Scheme to all applicants, providing an opportunity to enlist in the combat forces. Each year, approximately 45,000 to 50,000 soldiers will be recruited under the Agneepath Scheme, committing to a four-year service period.

Agneepath Scheme Details

Agneepath Scheme Details: The individuals participating in this recruitment process are referred to as “Agniveers.” Upon completion of four years of service, Agniveers will receive competitive compensation and an exit retirement package, as per the decision. It is noteworthy that this opportunity is exclusively available to non-commissioned officers or those employees below the officer level who choose not to join the military as commissioned officers.

Agneepath Scheme Eligibility: The Agneepath Scheme has certain eligibility criteria that applicants must meet to participate in the program. These criteria may include age limits, educational qualifications, and other specific requirements, which will be outlined in the scheme’s guidelines and official notifications.

  • To be considered eligible, candidates must fall within the age range of 17.5 to 23. For the Recruitment Year 2022-2023, the upper age limit has been revised from 21 to 23 years old.

Agneepath Scheme Post-wise Qualification: The Agneepath Scheme requires specific post-wise qualifications based on the desired position or role. These qualifications will vary depending on the specific job requirements and will be outlined in the scheme’s guidelines and official notifications.

Agneepath Scheme Salary

Agneepath Scheme Salary: Under the Agniveer Scheme, individuals will commence their service with a starting salary of Rs.30,000, which will progressively increase to Rs.40,000 over the course of four years. Moreover, a Seva Nidhi scheme will be implemented during their tenure, where 30% of their wages will be set aside. The government will contribute equally on a monthly basis, and the funds will accrue interest.

At the end of the four-year service period, each soldier will receive a lump sum payment of Rs.11.71 lakh, which will be tax-free. Additionally, they will be provided with a life insurance policy worth INR 48 lakh for the duration of four years. In the unfortunate event of a soldier’s demise, the payout will exceed INR 1 crore and will encompass compensation for any remaining service time. For the 25% of troops who are re-selected into service at higher ranks, the initial four years will not be considered for retirement benefits. It is important to note that gratuity or pension benefits will not be applicable under this scheme.

Benefits of Agneepath Scheme after Retirement

Agneepath Scheme Benefits: The Indian government has made a commitment to reserve 10% of positions within the defense and home ministries specifically for “Agnives.” Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh announced that 10% of employment opportunities in the Indian Coast Guard would also be earmarked for Agnives. This reservation policy extends to the 16 state-owned businesses under the Ministry of Defense. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has declared that 10% of available slots in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and Assam Rifles will be reserved for Agnives. The Civil Aviation Ministry has assured the implementation of measures to hire technically skilled Agniveers for various roles.

The National Institute of Open Schooling has recently announced that Agniveers associated with them would have the opportunity to undertake special courses to obtain their Class 10th and 12th certifications. The Union Ministry of Education plans to offer a three-year special technical education program at the undergraduate level for agricultural workers, with preference given to Agniveers, as announced by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
