Top 500 List of Supercomputers

The Top500 is a compilation of the 500 fastest computer systems currently in use. It was first initiated in 1993 and has been regularly updated every six months since then.

  • The list identifies the locations that possess the 500 most powerful computer systems worldwide.
  • The ranking is based on the best performance achieved in the Linpack benchmark, which measures a computer’s floating-point execution rate.
  • This benchmark involves running a program that solves a complex system of linear equations.
  • It’s worth noting that the characteristics of the benchmark have evolved somewhat over the years.
