Recently, the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet, RAdm Gurcharan Singh, embarked onboard Indian Naval Ships Satpura and Delhi, arrived in Singapore to participate in the inaugural ASEAN India Maritime Exercise (AIME-2023).

The ASEAN India Maritime exercise provides a platform for the navies of ASEAN Member States and India to enhance their collaboration, deepen their understanding, and build mutual trust to address common challenges related to maritime security at sea.

  • Host Country: As the country coordinator for ASEAN-India Dialogue Relations between 2021 and 2024, Singapore is co-hosting the ASEAN-India Maritime Exercise.
  • Schedule and Venue: From 02 to 04 May 2023, the Harbour Phase of the ASEAN India Maritime Exercise will take place at Changi Naval Base, followed by the Sea Phase in the South China Sea, scheduled from 07 to 08 May 2023.
  • Significance: The ASEAN India Maritime Exercise 2023 presents a valuable opportunity for the Indian Navy and ASEAN navies to collaborate closely and carry out joint operations seamlessly in the maritime domain.

ASEAN India Maritime Exercise Participation

INS Delhi, India’s first guided missile destroyer built indigenously, and INS Satpura, a stealth frigate equipped with indigenous guided missiles, are two vessels that form a part of the Eastern Fleet of the Indian Navy stationed at Visakhapatnam.

  • They operate under the operational command of the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command and are equipped with advanced weapons and sensors.
  • Additionally, during their visit to Singapore, the ships will take part in the International Maritime Defence Exhibition (IMDEX-23) and the International Maritime Security Conference (IMSC) hosted by Singapore.
