What is Normalisation?
Normalization is the process of adjusting scores measured on different scales to a common scale. In exams with multiple shifts and different question papers, the difficulty level may vary between shifts. Normalization is needed to account for these differences and ensure fair scores across all shifts for the same post or course.
BPSC Chairman’s Statement
On December 6, BPSC Chairman Ravi S. Parmar called the protests “unwarranted,” confirming that there would be no normalization for the exam and it would be conducted in a single shift. The Commission issued a statement to counter rumors circulating on social media about normalization.
Police Action and Political Support
Protests have seen heavy police action, including lathi charges, with some protesters injured. While the police claim there were no serious injuries, eyewitnesses report otherwise. Political leaders, including opposition leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, have condemned the police response and expressed support for the students.
Issue with Normalization
The debate over normalization has been ongoing in India, with students fearing it creates unfair disparities. Although BPSC has assured there will be no normalization, students remain uncertain about how their scores will be evaluated.
Present Status of Protests
As of December 7, protests continue outside BPSC offices in Patna, with students demanding clearer communication on the exam procedures. Tensions remain high as the exam date approaches.
