• Recently, the President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu graced the launch of the National Campaign on ‘RISE-Rising India through Spiritual Empowerment’.

• RISE is a step towards spiritual  empowerment of Indian nationals through which the dream of Golden India will be fulfilled.
• Brahma Kumaris BELIEVEthat Self Transformation leads to world transformation. The journey of a million transformation will create a Domino’s effect and will lead to rebuilding of the nation.
• The ‘RISE’ campaign would contribute in making India a leading nation by spiritually empowering its people and supporting the welfare of the entire humanity.

Brahma Kumaris- Key Points

• About: Brahma Kumaris is a worldwide spiritual movement dedicated to personal transformation and world renewal.
  • Founded in India in 1937, Brahma Kumaris has spread to over 130 countries.
• Founder: Pitashree Prajapita Brahma is known as the Founding Father of Brahma Kumaris.
• Significant Contribution: for the past nearly 80 years, the Brahma Kumaris Sansthan has been making invaluable contributions towards spiritual progress, inner transformation of personality and revitalization of the world community.
  • Through the spirit of service based on peace, non-violence and love, this organization has made significant contributions in many fields like holistic education, rural development, health, women empowerment, disaster management, welfare of divyangjans and orphans and environment protection.
  • Brahma Kumaris organization is running about 5000 meditation centers in 137 countries.

• Recently, the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has paid  tributes to Rani Velu Nachiyar on her birth anniversary.
• He said that “She was at the forefront of ensuring justice for her people. She fiercely resisted colonialism and also worked for the welfare of society. Her bravery will keep motivating generations to come.”

• About: Rani Velu Nachiyar was the first queen of Tamil origin to fight against the British in India. Rani Velu Nachiyar was an inspiring-women in the south.
  • Velu Nachiyar is still held in high regard in Tamil Nadu with the moniker ‘Veeramangai’ or brave woman bestowed upon her by the people.
• Rebellion against British Rule: Rani Velu Nachiyar formed an army and fought and won against the British in 1780, with the military assistance of Hyder Ali.
  • Rani Velu Nachiyar was drawn into battle after her husband was killed by the British.
• Protection of Hyder Ali: Rani Velu Nachiyar lived under the protection of Hyder Ali of Mysore near Dindigul.
• Idea of Human Bomb: Rani Velu Nachiyar was said to have come up with the idea of a human bomb.
• Her Rule: Rani Velu Nachiyar also formed a women’s army and was one of the few rulers who regained her kingdom and ruled for 10 more years.
  • She ruled the kingdom for over a decade before bequeathing the royal commitments to the Maruthu brothers at her death in 1796.

• Recently, the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi addressed the 108th Indian Science Congress (ISC) via video conferencing.
• At Indian Science Congress 2023, Prime Minister highlighted the role of India’s scientific strength in India’s story of development over the next 25 years.

• About: The first session of the Congress was held in 1914. The 108th annual session of ISC will be held at Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, which is also celebrating its centenary this year.
• Theme: The focal theme of this year’s ISC is “Science and Technology for Sustainable Development with Women Empowerment”.
• Focus on Women Empowerment: It will witness discussions on issues of sustainable development, women empowerment and the role of science & technology in achieving this.
• Organizing body: The Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) organizes the annual Indian Science Congress.

India takes over leadership of the Asian Pacific Postal Union

• India will take over the leadership of the Asian Pacific Postal Union (APPU) having its Headquarters in Bangkok, Thailand from this month.

• Following the successful elections held during the 13th APPU Congress held in Bangkok during August- September 2022, Dr. Vinaya Prakash Singh will take over the charge of Secretary General of the Union for a tenure of 4 years.
  • Vinaya Prakash Singh is the erstwhile Member (Personnel), Postal Services Board.
• Asian Pacific Postal Union (APPU) is an intergovernmental organization of 32-member countries of the Asian-Pacific region.
• APPU is the only Restricted Union of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in the region, which is a specialized agency of the United Nations.
• The goal of APPU is to extend, facilitate and improve postal relations between member countries and to promote cooperation in the field of postal services.
• As the regional center for various UPU projects, APPU also takes the lead in ensuring that all technical and operational projects of the UPU are fulfilled in the region so that the region is integrated into the global postal network in the best possible way.
• Secretary General leads the activities of the Union and is also the Director of the Asian Pacific Postal College (APPC) which is the largest intergovernmental postal training institute in the region.
