Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman approved the final Sovereign Green Bonds framework of India.

What are Sovereign Green bonds?

  • Sovereign Green bonds are financial instruments that generate proceeds for investment in environmentally sustainable and climate-suitable projects.
  • By virtue of their indication towards environmental sustainability, green bonds command a relatively lower cost of capital vis-à-vis regular bonds and necessitate credibility and commitments associated with the process of raising bonds.
  • The issuance of Sovereign Green Bonds will help Government of India (GoI) in tapping the requisite finance from potential investors for deployment in public sector projects aimed at reducing the carbon intensity of the economy.

Know about Sri Kanaka Dasa

  • Sri Kanaka Dasa (1508-1606) was a great poet and musician of Karnataka, in the tradition of Sri Purandara Dasa.
  • He belonged to the Kurube Gowda community, who were warriors.
  • Kanaka Dasa was not just a social reformer and a great composer; he was mainly a devotee of Lord Narayana.
  • He was a disciple of Vyasaraja of Udupi.
  • He lived at Tirupathi in his last days.
  • A great writer, poet, composer, and social reformer, Shri Kanaka Dasa is referred to as one of the stalwarts and most significant contributors to Carnatic music.
  • He has composed Hari Bhakti Sara, Nala Charitra, Mohana Tarangini, Nara Simhastava, and devotional songs in Kannada like ‘Krishna Nee Begane’ (Yaman Kalyan) His devotional songs and devoted work elevated the backward communities.
  • His signatures were ‘Kagineli Kesava’, ‘Velapuri Kesava’, etc.

Gandhigram Rural Institute

PM Modi attended the 36th Convocation Ceremony of Gandhigram Rural Institute at Dindigul in Tamil Nadu.

Importance of Gandhigram Rural Institute (GRI)

  • Gandhigram Rural Institute (GRI), founded by two dedicated disciples and contemporaries of Mahatma Gandhi, Dr.G.Ramachandran and Dr.T.S.Soundaram Ramachandran, has as its foundation Mahatma Gandhi’s revolutionary philosophy of Nai Talim.
  • Since its establishment in 1956, GRI has been unstintingly contributing to higher education and has successfully pioneered rural higher education.
  • The Institute which is administered by the Ministry of Education, Government of India and fully funded through UGC, New Delhi has developed academic programs in rural development, rural economics and extension education, rural oriented sciences, co-operation, development administration, rural sociology, English, Tamil and Indian languages.

  • Nai Talim had inherent philosophy of non-violence, equality and oppression free society. Nai-Talim, also known as Buniyadi Shikshan, means basic education.

Who was Shri RL Kashyap?

  • Rangasami Lakshminarayan Kashyap (born 28 March 1938) has made fundamental contributions both in the field of Computer Pattern Recognition and Machine Intelligence, as well as in the field of Vedic Studies.
  • For his work in the field of machine intelligence, he has received several major awards such as the King-Sun Fu award for fundamental contributors to pattern recognition (1990), given by the International Association of Pattern Recognition.
  • In the field of Vedic studies, Kashyap has made fundamentle contribution including the complete translation into English of all the four major and most ancient collection of verses in Sanskrit namely Rig Veda Samhita, Krishna Yajurveda Samhita and Sama Veda, and Atharva Veda (one part), consisting together of about 25000 metrical verses in the Sanskrit of Veda-s (different from classical Sankrit).
  • He has continued the work of Sri Aurobindo and Kapali Sastry in revealing the deep meanings of Veda mantra.
