On February 05, 2023, PM Modi will visit Karnataka to inaugurate India Energy Week 2023.

About India Energy Week 2023

  • Held under the patronage of Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, supported by the Federation of Indian Petroleum Industry (FIPI), managed by dmg events, India Energy Week is first major event under India’s G20 Presidency.
  • Aim: The India Energy Week 2023 in Bengaluru, aimed at showcasing India’s rising prowess as an energy transition powerhouse.
  • Taking place between 6 – 8 February 2023 at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC), India Energy Week comes at a critical time, with the challenges of energy security and environmental sustainability impacting long-term energy transition, and paths towards decarbonisation.
  • As India accelerates its efforts to become a gas-based economy and achieve a target of net-zero emissions by 2070, about $60 billion worth of investments are underway in the country in setting up the infrastructure – pipelines, terminals, regasification facilities and so on.
  • As a rapidly developing country, and soon to be the world’s most populous nation, India’s energy transition will play a pivotal role in global energy markets.

Key Events During PM Modi’s Visit at India Energy Week 2023 

  • 3 Day Event: India Energy Week 2023, which is starting on Feb. 6 is the three-day event which will provide a platform to discuss the challenges and opportunities of India’s energy future.
  • Participants: Over 30,000 delegates, 1,000 exhibitors, and 500 speakers are scheduled to attend the event.
  • Roundtable Discussion: In addition, PM Modi will participate in a roundtable discussion with global oil and gas CEOs during the event and will also launch a number of initiatives in the green energy sector.
  • E20 fuel: In line with the ethanol blending roadmap, Prime Minister will launch E20 fuel at 84 retail outlets of Oil Marketing Companies in 11 States/UTs.
  • Green Mobility Rally: Prime Minister will also flag off the Green Mobility Rally. The rally will witness participation of vehicles running on green energy sources and will help create public awareness for the green fuels.
  • Uniforms Made With PET bottles: Further, in a major effort to phase out the use of single-use plastic, during the event, Prime Minister Modi will also launch the uniforms adopted by Indian Oil for retail customer attendants and LPG delivery personnel. Notably, each set of uniform of Indian Oil’s customer attendant will support recycling of around 28 used PET bottles.
  • Twin-Cooktop Model: Prime Minister will also dedicate the twin-cooktop model of the IndianOil’s Indoor Solar Cooking System and flag-off its commercial roll-out.

Jammu and Kashmir, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on February 04, 2023, inaugurated the SARAS Aajeevika Mela 2023 at Aquaplex Crown at Bagh-e-Bahu, Jammu.

About SARAS Aajeevika Mela

  • The SARAS Aajeevika Mela/fair is witnessing participation of women Self Help Groups from around 25 States and UTs across the country.
  • This will be a National-level fair that will exhibit unique and famous indigenous products from various states and UTs.
  • 1-day-long fair SARAS Aajeevika Mela is first of its kind in the Union Territory of J&K.
  • The mega event will provide a platform for the rural SHG women to sell and promote their self-made products & create marketing linkages with various selling platforms.
  • Seventy-five stalls and 10 food courts have been set up at the exhibition site showcasing crafts, handicrafts, handloom and cuisine.
  • The Self Help Groups will display handicraft, handloom and natural food items from different rural areas across the country.
  • Several cultural events and plays on different Government schemes and campaigns will also be held during the fair.

National Cancer Awareness Day

  • To restrict the fast spread of cancer, even National Cancer Awareness Day is observed on November 7 in India to draw attention to the condition’s importance and raise awareness about its early detection, treatment, and diagnosis.
  • November 7th is the birth anniversary of Nobel Prize-winning scientist Madame Curie who is best known for discovering radium and polonium and making significant contributions to the fight against cancer.

State Of Cancer In India and World

  • Cancer is rapidly emerging as a matter of serious public health concern all across the world including India.
  • The estimated number of cases in India for the year 2022, was found to be 14,61,427.
  • Globally also, it is among the leading causes of death, contributing to about 10-11 million deaths.
  • If related researches are to be believed, in India, one in nine people is likely to develop cancer in his lifetime.
  • Lung and breast cancers are the leading sites of cancer in males and females, respectively.
  • The five most frequent cancers in India are breast, cervical, oral, and lung and colorectal cancer. Among the childhood, lymphoid leukaemia is the leading site.
  • The cases of cancers are further likely to increase owing to various reasons.
  • National Cancer Registry Programme is playing a very important role in weaving plans against this menace with relevant facts and figures.
