H3N2 Virus

In News?

  • There have been cases of H3N2 virus reported in North India.
  • In fact, every second person is experiencing prolonged post-viral cough, breathlessness and sneezing.
  • Most of these cases are caused by the H3N2 virus, a type of influenza A virus, which is severe, but not as epidemical in nature as the deadly H1N1 virus (swine flu).

About H3N2 Virus

  • H3N2 virus is a type of influenza virus called the influenza A virus. It is a respiratory viral infection that causes illnesses every year. This subtype of influenza A virus was discovered in 1968 in humans.
  • The virus derives from types of protein strains of the influenza A virus – hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA). HA has over 18 different subtypes, each numbered H1 to H18 while NA has 11 different subtypes, each numbered N1 to N11.
  • The H3N2 is a combination of the two protein strains of the influenza A virus.

IRIGC-TEC In News?

  • On March 06, 2023, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Manturov and S Jaishankar co-chaired the India-Russia Inter-governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation (IRIGC-TEC).

About IRIGC-TEC

  • The Inter-governmental Commission(IRIGC-TEC) is a mechanism for regularly monitoring bilateral progress across the sectors of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries which was set up by an Agreement on inter-governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technological Cooperation signed in May 1992.
  • It integrates seven working groups on trade and economic cooperation, modernization and industrial cooperation, energy, investment projects, tourism and culture, science and technology, and communications & IT.
  • The first session of IRIGC was held on September 13-14 1994 and 23 meetings of the mechanism have been held so far.
  • The 24th IRIGC-TEC meeting will be hosted by India Soon.

FRINJEX-23

In News?

  • The maiden Joint Military Exercise FRINJEX-23 between Indian Army and French Army will be conducted at Pangode Military Station at Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala on 7th and 8th March 2023.
  • This will be a Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief(HADR) centric exercise.

Important Facts About FRINJEX-23

  • First Time: While Indian and French Armed Forces conduct routine combat exercises, a Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief(HADR) centric one is a unique development. So, for the first time, both the armies(Indian Army and French Army) are engaging in this format with each contingent comprising a Company Group each from the Thiruvananthapuram based Indian Army troops and French 6th Light Armoured Brigade.
  • Aim: The exercise is aimed at enhancing inter-operability, coordination and cooperation between both forces at tactical level.
  • Scope: The scope of the exercise involves establishment and operationalisation of a joint command post to secure an envisaged area for undertaking joint humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, establishing an Internally Displaced Population camp and move of disaster relief material.
  • Indo-France strategic partnership: The Joint exercise will further cement defence cooperation with France which is a key aspect of the overall Indo-France strategic partnership.

IMX-23

IMX-23 In News?

  • The Indian warship INS Trikand reached Bahrain for its participation for the first time in the International Maritime Exercise (IMX-23), organised by the US-led Combined Maritime Forces, a 34-nation naval group.
  • International Maritime Exercise/ Cutlass Express 2023 (IMX/CE-23) is currently underway in the Gulf region from February 26 to March 16, 2023.
Important Fact
IMX-23 is the Indian Navy’s first IMX participation, it is also the second time an Indian Naval ship has participated in a CMF exercise. Previously, in November 2022, INS Trikand took part in the CMF-led Operation.

  • IMX 23 is one of the world’s largest multinational maritime exercises.
  • The International Maritime Exercise is coordinated by the US-led Combined Maritime Forces (CMF).
    • About Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) – a 34-nation naval group that seeks to promote security, stability, and prosperity.
  • India became an associate member of CMF in 2022.
    It marks the second occasion where an Indian Naval ship is participating in an exercise conducted by the CMF.
  • Earlier, INS Trikand had participated in the CMF-led Operation Sea Sword 2 in 2022.
