With Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi at the helm, 60% of rural households now have access to clean drinking water delivered through taps under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).

In India, over 1.55 lakh villages, which constitutes 25% of the total number of villages, have achieved the ‘Har Ghar Jal’ status, indicating that each household in these villages has access to clean drinking water through taps located within their premises.

  • Additionally, during the first three months of 2023, the Jal Jeevan Mission has accomplished a noteworthy feat of providing one tap connection every second, resulting in an average of 86,894 new tap water connections daily.
  • The states of Gujarat, Telangana, Goa, Haryana, and Punjab, along with three Union Territories, namely Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Daman Diu & Dadra Nagar Haveli, and Puducherry, have reported full coverage of clean drinking water through taps for all rural households.
  • This indicates that the country is making consistent progress towards providing safe drinking water through taps to all rural households.

What is Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM)?

Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) aims to ensure that every rural household has a drinking water supply in adequate quantity of prescribed quality on a regular and long-term basis at affordable service delivery charges.

  • Jal Jeevan Mission aims to deliver sufficient quantities of water (55 liters per capita per day) of the prescribed quality at adequate pressure, on a regular and long-term basis to all rural households.
  • With an overall financial commitment of INR 3600 billion (equivalent to US $ 43.80 billion), this program stands out as one of the world’s largest welfare initiatives.
  • Affordable access to quality drinking water will lead to improvement in the living standards of rural communities.

 Exercise SLINEX-23

SLINEX-23, the tenth iteration of the IN-SLN bilateral maritime exercise, is set to take place in Colombo between April 3rd and April 8th, 2023.

Ex SLINEX 2023

The ongoing IN-SLN bilateral maritime exercise, SLINEX-23, is being conducted in two phases: the Harbour Phase from April 3-5, 2023, and the Sea Phase from April 6-8, 2023.

  • The Indian Navy’s representation comprises INS Kiltan, an indigenous Kamorta class ASW corvette, and INS Savitri, an Offshore Patrol Vessel.
  • Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Navy is being represented by SLNS Gajabahu and SLNS Sagara.
  • Both sides will also deploy Maritime Patrol Aircraft, helicopters, and Special Forces for the exercise.
  • Notably, the preceding SLINEX exercise was held from March 7-12, 2022, off the coast of Visakhapatnam.

Exercise SLINEX Significance

The primary goal of SLINEX is to enhance interoperability, mutual understanding, and the exchange of best practices between the Indian and Sri Lankan navies while conducting diverse maritime operations collaboratively. In addition to the maritime operations, the harbour phase also includes professional, cultural, and sporting events, as well as social exchanges to strengthen the bonds of friendship and camaraderie between the two navies.

International Conference on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (ICDRI) 2023

ICDRI is an annual event hosted by the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) and its affiliates.

  • International Conference on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (ICDRI) 2023 aims to bring together member nations, organizations, institutions, and stakeholders involved in infrastructure to enhance the worldwide dialogue on disaster and climate-resilient infrastructure.
