Recently, Revised guidelines for pricing of domestically produced natural gas from specific nomination fields have been approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

Revised Domestic Gas Pricing Guidelines

The approved revised domestic natural gas pricing guidelines are applicable to the nomination fields of ONGC/OIL, NELP blocks, and pre-NELP blocks, where the prices are subject to the Government’s approval as per the Production Sharing Contract (PSC).

• A monthly notification of the pricing for the specified natural gas will be set at 10% of the Indian Crude Basket’s monthly average.
• For ONGC & OIL’s nomination block-produced gas, the Administered Price Mechanism (APM) price will have a minimum and maximum limit.
• Newly drilled or intervened wells in their nomination fields will be permitted a 20% premium over the APM price for their produced gas.

Revised Domestic Gas Pricing Guidelines Significance

The revised guidelines aim to establish a consistent pricing system for domestic gas consumers while also offering incentives to producers to boost production and safeguard against market volatility.

• To increase the share of natural gas in India’s primary energy mix from the current 6.5% to 15% by 2030, the government has set a target.
• These reforms are intended to encourage the use of natural gas, resulting in a reduction in emissions and progress toward the goal of achieving net zero.
• The revisions are expected to cause a substantial reduction in prices for Piped Natural Gas (PNG) in households and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) used for transportation.
• These price reductions will also reduce the burden of the fertilizer subsidy and provide assistance to the domestic power sector.

Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister, informed the Rajya Sabha that the Samudrayaan Project was initiated in September 2021 under the Deep Ocean Mission, with a budget of Rs 119 Crores. The total budget allocation, disbursement, and expenditure for the Samudrayaan Project since its inception is Rs 119 cr.

Samudrayaan Project Implementation and Accomplishments

The Minister stated that as for the deep-sea explorations conducted since the Project’s commencement, a preliminary trial of Deep Ocean Exploration for Polymetallic Manganese Nodule at the Central Indian Ocean basin was carried out in December 2022. The trial involved the use of an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (Ocean Mineral Explorer – 6000 – OMe 6000) to gather geophysical, oceanographic, and seabed information at a depth of 5270 m.

• The Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) and the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR) have amassed extensive oceanographic, geophysical, geological, and biological data from the deep-sea areas around the mid-ocean ridges in the Indian Ocean.
• The objective of the mission was to investigate promising sites for multi-metal hydrothermal sulphides.
• An analysis of the data, as well as the integration and interpretation of the information, unveiled multiple prospective locations of hydrothermal venting and mineralization on the Indian Ocean seafloor.
• Furthermore, the mapping and identification of several previously unknown biological species have also been accomplished.

Following the successful conclusion of the 2nd Tourism Working Group Meeting in Siliguri, Darjeeling district from 1st to 4th April 2023, Shri Arvind Singh, the Secretary (Tourism), addressed the national media.

Hosted by the Ministry of Tourism, the second G20 Tourism Working Group Meeting commenced with a panel discussion on ‘Adventure Tourism as a means of achieving Sustainable Development Goals’.

• Venue: G20 2nd Tourism Working Group Meeting 2023 was organized in Siliguri, Darjeeling district.
  • 1^st Tourism Working Group Meeting under India’s G20 Presidency was organized at the Rann of Kutch, Gujarat from 7th – 9th Feb 2023.
• Participation: 56 delegates from 17 member countries, 8 invitee countries, and 4 international organizations participated in the working group meeting.
  • The event was also attended by ambassadors from seven G20 countries, including Australia, Bangladesh, Japan, Singapore, Mexico, Indonesia, and Korea.
• Focus Area: Two side events were conducted during the Working Group Meetings, focusing on Adventure Tourism. These events aimed to emphasize the potential of adventure tourism in both India’s tourism landscape and the North East Region. These two events were-

  • ‘Tourism in Mission Mode: Advantage Adventure Tourism’
