Recently, key information about Recognition of Ayush Certifications by Indian education was given by Minister of Ayush Shri Sarbananda Sonowal in a written reply in Rajya Sabha.

Status of Ayush Education & Certifications in India

There are 476-Ayurveda, 56-Unani, 13- Siddha, 07- Sowa- Rigpa and 284- Homoeopathy medical institutions imparting education and training in the country. There are 34202 seats in Ayurveda, 916 seats in Siddha, 3103 seats in Unani, 85 seats in Sowa-Rigpa and 19757 seats in Homoeopathy stream has been permitted for undergraduate course for the academic year 2021-22.

  • The admission status of candidates against the aforesaid permitted seats may vary with the number of students enrolled to the courses and is available with universities to which the concern Ayush course is affiliated.
  • As per the information available, during the Academic session 2021-22, total number of UG students enrolled in Unani- 2529, Siddha-603, Ayurveda- 28268 and Homoeopathy- 15581.
  • There are provision under the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine Act, 2020 and the National Commission for Homoeopathy Act, 2020 for recognition medical qualifications granted by medical institution outside India.

Maritime India Vision (MIV) 2030

Recently, the Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha informed about Maritime India Vision (MIV) 2030. The Maritime India Vision estimates investments of Rs. 1,00,000–1,25,000 crore for capacity augmentation and development of world-class infrastructure at Indian Ports.

Capacity of India’s Maritime Sector

The container throughput of Indian ports stood at 17 million TEUs for the period 2020 whereas that for China stood at 245 million TEUs for the same period. The combined container throughput across top 20 major global ports stood at 357 million TEUs during the period 2020.

  • At present, India is not having landside mega-port and terminal infrastructure to deal with Ultra-large container ships.
  • Ports need higher draft, several large cranes, better yard management capability, increased automation, larger storage facilities, more inland connectivity and enhanced labour productivity.
  • Ultra-large container ships seek speedy unloading of the large volumes they carry.

Role of Maritime India Vision (MIV) 2030

To develop global standard ports in India, Maritime India Vision (MIV) 2030 has identified initiatives such as developing world-class Mega Ports, transhipment hubs and infrastructure modernization of ports.

  • It estimates the investments to the tune of INR 1,00,000–1,25,000 crore for capacity augmentation and development of world-class infrastructure at Indian Ports.
  • The upcoming ports at Vizhinjam (Kerala) and Vadhavan (Maharashtra) have natural drafts in excess of 18m.
  • This would enable ultra large container and cargo vessels to call on the ports thereby boosting the efforts to make India the world’s factory by improving the container and cargo throughput.

Recently, the government in Lok Sabha informed that the number of beneficiaries under Prime Minister’s Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) has increased from 3.16 crore in the 1st period (December 2018 – March 2019) to 10.45 crore in the 11th period (April 2022 – July 2022).

Steps Taken to increase Beneficiaries under PM-KISAN

The Government has undertaken the following steps to increase the number of beneficiaries receiving payments under PM-Kisan-

  • A special facility has been provided to the farmers in the PM-KISAN Portal, namely Farmers Corner.
    • Through this facility, farmers can do their self-registration
  • A special mobile App has been launched on 24th February 2020.  The App provides the facilities available through Farmers Corner.
  • Common Service Centres have been authorized to assist the farmers in registration for the PM-KISAN Scheme, updation of their data and in ascertaining the status of processing of their payment.
  • State Governments have appointed nodal officers for the scheme at Block, District and State Level.
  • The States/UTs have organized publicity/ awareness camps to ensure expeditious verification of the data of the registered beneficiaries.
  • States/UTs have been asked to expedite the process of saturation of the Scheme by ensuring enrollment of all eligible farmer families.
