- The Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) established in the memory of Jawaharlal Nehru (1889-1964) is an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
- It is located in the majestic Teen Murti House, the official residence of the first Prime Minister of India.
- It has four major constituents, namely, a Memorial Museum, a library on modern India, a Centre for Contemporary Studies and the Nehru Planetarium.
- The NMML houses a specialized library which has been designed and developed as a specific research and reference centre on colonial and post-colonial India with its very rich and varied collection of books, journals, photographs and other resource materials on microfilm and microfiche.

Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards
Why In News?
- President Droupadi Murmu will confer the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards upon 27 people during the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention at Indore, Madhya Pradesh.

- This Year’s Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award will be given to 27 people including the President of Guyana Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali.
- The 17th edition of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention is scheduled to be held from 8 to 10th January this year.
- The President will give away the award during the valedictory session of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas celebrations.
- The Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award is the highest honour conferred on overseas Indians.

Yesterday, the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has paid tributes to Sri Mannathu Padmanabhan on his birth anniversary.
Prelims Bits About Sri Mannathu Padmanabhan
- Mannathu Padmanabhan, the founder of the Nair Service Society (NSS), was a great social reformer who tirelessly worked to improve the social and economics status of the Nair community.
- Sri Mannathu Padmanabhan instilled a sense of direction in the decadent Nair Community by organizing the people under the banner of Nair Service Society, a service organization equipped and committed to the cause of providing modern education, a positive outlook, a sense of purpose and a competitive edge.
- He was born in Perunna, on 02 January 1878 AD, a small village in Kottayam district of Kerala. His father was Sri Easwaran Namboothiri of Nilamana illam and mother Smt Chiramuttathu Parvathy Amma.
- He became the Acharya of his community by dint of his ability, sincerity and perseverance.
- Mannam sought to serve his community denouncing the well-paid job of a lawyer.
- He had realised the significance of education in the growth of any community.
- He approached the wealthy class to collect money to commence educational institutions and persuaded people to donate land for the purpose.
- Despite his role as a social reformer, Mannam had meticulously chosen to stay away from the mainstream politics except on two occasions. One occasion was very important when he opposed the then Diwan of Travancore Sir C.P. Ramaswami Iyer’s stance on the merger of Travancore and Cochin to Indian Union.

Supreme Court’s Decision On Demonetization
Why In News?
The Supreme Court on 02-01-2023 upheld the decision of the Central government taken in 2016 to demonetise the currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 denominations.

- With a 4:1 majority, a five-judge Constitution bench of the S.C. dismissed a batch of petitions challenging the decision saying that the demonetization decision, being the Executive’s economic policy, cannot be reversed.
- Supreme Court says there was consultation between the Centre and the RBI before demonetisation.
- The Apex Court also held that demonetisation was not hit by the doctrine of proportionality.
