Exercise Ekuverin 2023: Exercise EKUVERIN is a joint military exercise conducted annually between the Indian Army and the Maldives National Defence Force. Exercise Ekuverin 2023 is also important for UPSC Prelims Exam and UPSC Mains Exam (GS Paper 2- International Relations; GS Paper 3- Internal Security).

The 12th edition of the joint military exercise “Ex Ekuverin” has kicked off at Chaubatia in Uttarakhand. The Ekuverin 2023 exercise involves the Indian Army and the Maldives National Defence Force and will take place from 11th to 24th June 2023.

The term “Ekuverin,” which signifies “Friends,” represents the bilateral nature of this annual exercise, which is conducted alternatively in India and the Maldives.

• Key Objectives: The 12th Exercise EKUVERIN is aimed at enhancing interoperability in Counter Insurgency/ Counter Terrorism Operations under the UN mandate and carry out joint Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief operations.
• Participation: A contingent comprising a platoon strength from the Indian Army and the Maldives National Defence Force will be participating in a 14-day-long exercise.
• Key Activities: Besides rigorous training, the joint EKUVERIN military exercise will also include cultural and sports activities to enhance defence cooperation and bilateral relations.
