G20 Cybersecurity Exercise and Drill in News
Recently, the Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Shri Alkesh Kumar Sharma inaugurated the G20 Cyber Security Exercise and Drill under India’s G20 Presidency. There is a need for whole of government response to counter cyber challenges including cooperation with Law Enforcement Agencies (LEA) at both domestic and international level.
G20 Cybersecurity Exercise and Drill 2023
G20 Cybersecurity Exercise and Drill 2023 is being conducted by Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) in Hybrid Mode.
- Participation: G20 Cybersecurity Exercise and Drill is being attended more than 400 domestic and international participants under India’s G20 presidency.
- International participants from more than 12 countries joined through online mode.
- Domestic participants from diverse sectors such as Finance, Education, Telecom, Ports & Shipping, Energy, IT/ITeS and others attended in-person as well as in virtual mode.
- Key Events: G20 Cybersecurity Exercise includes conducting of-
- Strategic Table Top Exercise(TTX) and
- Operational Drill using CERT-In Exercise Platform.
- Significance: G20 Cybersecurity Exercise was successful in meeting its objectives and provided insights on-
- Enhancing and improving Crisis Management,
- Crisis Communication,
- Incident Response and
- Global coordination & cooperation.
Table Top Exercise under G20 Cybersecurity Drill
The first Table Top Exercise catered to Board & Top Management on the theme “Synergy to counter Global Cyber Crisis” focused on Crisis Management & Crisis Communication.
- The second Table Top Exercise, an Operational Drill was designed for CISO and Mid-management on the theme “Building Collective Cyber Resilience”.
- The scenario for the exercise, which included cyber extortion, data breach, supply chain attacks and disruptions was derived from real life cyber incidents, in which domestic level (limited impact) incidents escalated to global cyber security crisis.
G20 India Presidency
- G20 India Presidency: India assumed, for the first time, the Group of 20 (G20) year-long presidency from December 1, 2022 to November 30, 2023.
- India’s G20 Presidency will culminate with the G20 Summit in India in 2023 (G20 2023 Summit).
- G20 Presidency 2023: India inherited the G20 Presidency for the year 2023 from Indonesia which was the previous G20 Chair.
- Significance: The G20 Presidency offers a unique opportunity to India to contribute to the global agenda on pressing issues of international importance.
- During its G20 presidency, India will hold about 200 meetings in 32 different sectors in multiple locations across the country.
- G20 India theme: India’s G20 Presidency Theme is “Vasudhaiva Kutumba-kam” or “One Earth One Family One Future”.
- G20 India Logo: The symbol of the lotus in the G20 logo is a representation of hope in this time. No matter how adverse the circumstances, the lotus still blooms.
