Global Buddhist Summit 2023 Details
On April 20th, the first Global Buddhist Summit in New Delhi will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi.
- Organizing Ministry: the Global Buddhist Summit (GBS) 2023 is being organized by the Ministry of Culture in partnership with its grantee body International Buddhist Confederation (IBC).
- GBS Venue and Date: First Global Buddhist Summit 2023 is scheduled to be organized on 20-21 April at the Ashok Hotel.
- Theme: First Global Buddhist Summit 2023 is being organized on the theme of “Responses to Contemporary Challenges : Philosophy to Praxis”.
GBS Participation
For the first time, many eminent Buddhist monks from different countries visiting India for participating in the first Global Buddhist Summit (GBS) 2023. Distinguished scholars, Sangha leaders, and practitioners of Dharma from across the globe are participating in the conference.
- The Global Buddhist Summit will be attended by representatives from nearly 30 nations, comprising approximately 171 foreign delegates and 150 delegates from Indian Buddhist organizations.
- The international participants include 84 Sangha members, while the Indian delegation is made up of 151 individuals, including 46 Sangha members, 40 nuns, and 65 laypeople from outside Delhi.
- Additionally, the conference will be attended by nearly 200 individuals from the National Capital Region, including over 30 Ambassadors representing foreign Embassies.
Global Buddhist Summit 2023 Objectives
The primary goal of the summit is to examine the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha, which have been continually enhanced over time through the practice of Buddha Dhamma.
- The objective is to create a platform for Buddhist scholars and Dharma Masters who are not members of the Sangha.
- Additionally, the summit will delve into the message of Buddha regarding Peace, Compassion, and Harmony, with the aim of promoting universal peace and harmony, in keeping with the fundamental values of Dharma.
- The summit will result in a document that can be subjected to further academic research to assess its usefulness as a tool for international relations on a global scale.
Global Buddhist Summit Discussion Themes
During the summit, the delegates will deliberate on current global challenges and seek solutions through the teachings of Buddha Dhamma, which are founded on universal principles.
- Sub-themes: The discussions will fall under the following four themes:
- Buddha Dhamma and Peace
- Buddha Dhamma: Environmental Crisis, Health and Sustainability
- Preservation of Nalanda Buddhist Tradition
- Buddha Dhamma Pilgrimage, Living heritage and Buddha Relics: a resilient foundation to India’s centuries-old cultural links to countries in South, Southeast and East Asia.
- The discussions are anticipated to examine how the core principles of Buddha Dhamma can offer motivation and direction in present-day circumstances that are characterized by technological progress and consumerism, as well as the depletion of the planet’s resources and the rapid disillusionment of societies.
