Recently through a video message, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi delivered a speech at the 5th International Conference on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (ICDRI) 2023. The Prime Minister emphasized the significance of CDRI’s work and its relevance, particularly in light of the recent disasters such as the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, which were of significant scale and intensity.
- The Prime Minister expressed that the concept of CDRI emerged from a global perspective that recognizes the far-reaching consequences of disasters in an interconnected world.
- Consequently, he emphasized that our approach towards such incidents must be comprehensive rather than fragmented, promoting an integrated response.
- He also informed that the CDRI has been included in several working groups under India’s G20 Presidency 2023.

International Conference on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (ICDRI) 2023 aims to bring together member nations, organizations, institutions, and stakeholders involved in infrastructure to enhance the worldwide dialogue on disaster and climate-resilient infrastructure.
- Mandate: The upcoming ICDRI in 2023 will be centered on developing practical solutions and a call to action towards achieving resilient infrastructure.
- Venue: Like the previous edition, the conference will adopt a hybrid format, and it took place on April 4-5, 2023, in New Delhi, India.
- Participation: The CDRI has garnered the participation of over 40 countries from diverse backgrounds, including advanced and developing nations, as well as those from the Global South and Global North.
- It is heartening to note that not only governments, but also global institutions, private sectors, and domain experts have joined the initiative.

The 5th ICDRI 2023 was organized under the theme of ‘Delivering Resilient and Inclusive Infrastructure’. The 2023 ICDRI will showcase proven practices and solutions that delve into the systems, practices, and finances required to provide resilient infrastructure to people and economies across various geographies, climate typologies, and infrastructure sectors. The three key pillars of 5th International Conference on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (ICDRI) 2023 are given below-

- The ICDRI aims to enhance the global dialogue on disaster and climate resilient infrastructure by bringing together Member Countries, organizations, institutions, and stakeholders involved in infrastructure development.
- The conference is organised by the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), and will bring together stakeholders from partner countries representing national disaster risk management agencies, key infrastructure sectors, private sector and many multilateral institutions.
- The Conference provides an opportunity to address issues around infrastructure transitions, risk governance and finance, and putting people at the centre of building resilient infrastructure.

The Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) is an international coalition of national governments, UN agencies and programmes, multilateral development banks and financing mechanisms, the private sector, and knowledge institutions.
- CDRI aims to promote the resilience of new and existing infrastructure systems to climate and disaster risks in support of sustainable development.
- CDRI promotes rapid development of resilient infrastructure to respond to the Sustainable Development Goals’.
