On the occasion of Buddha Purnima, Shri Anurag Singh Thakur, the Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, enthusiastically unveiled the Khelo India University Games Uttar Pradesh 2022’s official logo, Mascot, Torch, Anthem & Jersey. The occasion also witnessed the presence of Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister, Shri Yogi Adityanath.

Khelo India University Games 2022 Details

The Khelo India University Games 2023 is an event under the Khelo India initiative of the Indian government, which aims to promote sports at the grassroots level and identify young talents from all over the country. The opening ceremony of Khelo India University Games 2022 is scheduled to take place in Lucknow, while the closing ceremony will be held in Varanasi. The sporting events will commence from May 23.

• KIUG 2022 Duration: The multi-sport event, Khelo India University Games 2023, is slated to commence on May 25 and will span over a period of 10 days, concluding on June 3.
• Host State and Districts: The Khelo India University Games 2022 event will be hosted in four cities across Uttar Pradesh, namely Lucknow, Varanasi, Greater Noida and Gorakhpur (Although the shooting events are to be held in New Delhi).
  • The Kabaddi competition begins in Noida on May 23rd, 2023 while a few others begin at the various venues on May 24th, 2023, as well.
• Participation: Around 4,000 athletes representing approximately 200 universities from across India will participate in the under-27 category in the upcoming third edition of the Khelo India University Games.
  • In Khelo India University Games 2022, the athletes will compete in 21 sports with the aim of winning medals.
• Sports Village for KIUG 2022: The Babu Banarasi Das University in Lucknow will be converted into a Sports Village for the duration of the Khelo India University Games 2023.
• Significance: The Khelo India University Games 2022 will serve as a model for demonstrating the highest level of sportsmanship, courage, and glory, setting new benchmarks of excellence for athletes to strive towards.

• As the official mascot for the Khelo India University Games, Jitu will serve as a source of excitement, fostering fan engagement and building team spirit throughout the tournament.
• Fans in Uttar Pradesh can look forward to seeing Jitu all over the state, as he will be utilised to attract new fans and encourage more people to take up sports.
• The mascot will also help promote team sponsors, merchandise, and other marketing activities, making him an essential part of the event’s success.
• Jaya and Vijay, mascots of previous Khelo India games welcomed Jitu on the stage.

• The river Ganga is etched on ‘Shakti’ to inspire every athlete to keep moving forward towards their ultimate goal, and the upward-pointing, future-facing arrow celebrates the glorious past and the future of Uttar Pradesh.
• Shakti is also blessed with the peacock feather and lotus petals at the origin of light, to manifest its calm energy that can move mountains and is a powerful source of inspiration and motivation.
