Mahila SHGs Sammelan Organised by TRIFED

Mahila SHGs Sammelan: Mahila SHGs Sammelan aims to provide encouragement and inspiration to women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and other small entrepreneurs. Mahila SHGs Sammelan is also important for UPSC Prelims Exam and UPSC Mains Exam (GS Paper 2- Various government initiatives and schemes for welfare and development of vulnerable sections of the population).

Recently, President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, interacted with Women SHG members at the Mahila SHGs Sammelan organised by the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED) and the National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation (NSTFDC). TRIFED and NSTFDC, under the aegis of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs  have shown their unwavering commitment to improve the lives of tribal people in every part of the country through Continuous performance.

Mahila SHGs Sammelan Details

The Mahila SHGs Sammelan event is organized by the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED) and the National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation (NSTFDC) under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.

  • Venue: The Mahila SHGs Sammelan gathering took place at the Birsa Munda College Stadium located in the Khunti District of Jharkhand.
  • Objective: The main aim of the Mahila SHGs Sammelan is to provide encouragement and inspiration to women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and other small entrepreneurs.
  • Organizers: This event is organized by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs in collaboration with the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED) and the National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation (NSTFDC).
  • Chief Guest: The President of India has graciously accepted the invitation to be the Chief Guest at the event, which was extended by the Minister of Tribal Affairs.
  • Participation: the Mahila SHGs Sammelan event will witness the enthusiastic participation of several thousand women SHG members.

Displays at Mahila SHGs Sammelan

Displays at the Mahila SHGs Sammelan event shall include:

  • Craft wise Display of Tribal products:This display will be presented in 20 stalls for which 20 suppliers & VDVKs of Jharkhand and Bihar States have been invited to participate along with their products. It will include different craft wise stalls, besides displaying tribal products from across the country.
  • Demonstration of Craft:The craft demonstration is planned to be arranged for weaving of textile, Bamboo Basket, Making Organic Kharsawan Haldi (Turmeric), Making Yoga Mat, Making Sabai Grass Products, Pearl Farming demo, Sohrai Painting, Making & Playing Musical Instrument and making Lac Jewellery.
  • Promotion of Lac Cultivation by Indian Institute of Natural Resins and Gums (IINRG)
  • Stalls of NSTFDC, NSIC, NIESBUD, Skill Sector Council (FICSI), D/o Posts and M/o MSME.
  • In order to prioritize health, a Health Corner will be set up for the purpose of screening for diseases that are prevalent among tribal communities and are genetic or lifestyle diseases, such as Sickle Cell Anemia, Malnutrition, and Tuberculosis, etc.
    • The behavior and dissemination of the sickle cell trait among tribal people in the area will be identified with the help of this exercise.
    • Following screening, the affected individuals will receive diagnosis, counselling and information about the diseases and its management.

Self Help Groups (SHGs)

Self Help Groups are informal associations of people who come together to find ways to improve their living conditions. Self Help Groups (SHGs) help to build social capital among the poor, especially women.

  • Members: The SHG members generally have similar socio-economic background.
  • Key Objectives: Self Help Groups are formed with following key objectives-
    • To encourage and motivate its members to save,
    • To persuade them to make a collective plan for generation of additional income,
    • To act as a conduit for formal banking services to reach them.
  • Significance: Such groups work as a collective guarantee system for members who propose to borrow from organised sources.
    • Consequently, Self-Help Groups have emerged as the most effective mechanism for delivery of micro-finance services to the poor.
  • SHG examples: SEWA in Gujarat, MYRADA in Karnataka, TANWA in Tamil Nadu, Ramkrishna mission in Jharkhand, ADITHI in Bihar.
