OPSC OAS Exam Pattern 2024
The OPSC OAS Exam Pattern for prelims, Mains exam, and Interviews have been released by the Commission (OPSC). Aspirants can check the OPSC OAS Exam Pattern 2024 given below.
OPSC Prelims Exam Pattern
The exam consists of two compulsory papers, each of 200 marks, with a total duration of 2 hours. Both papers are objective type (multiple choice questions).
- General Studies Paper-II is a qualifying paper, with a minimum passing mark of 33%.
- All question papers (except language and literature) will be in English.
- Candidates must write their answers by hand.
- Candidates with disabilities may be allowed a scribe or reader, and 20 minutes of extra time per hour if needed.

Candidates must appear in both papers of the preliminary exam for evaluation. Failure to appear in both papers will result in disqualification.
OPSC Mains Exam Pattern
In OPSC Mains Exam there will be five Papers and two Optional Papers. Each paper will allocated 250 marks. Check out the provided table below for the OPSC Mains Exam pattern.
- The Odia Language and English papers (Part-I of the Main exam) are qualifying and of Matriculation standard. Marks in these papers will not count.
- These papers test candidates’ ability to read, understand, and express ideas clearly in Odia and English.
- Evaluation of Essays, General Studies, and Optional Subject papers will be done only for candidates who score at least 25% in both the Odia and English qualifying papers.
- Only marks from Paper I-VII in Part II count for merit ranking, though the Commission may set qualifying marks for these papers.
- The exam papers will be of conventional (essay) type.
- Each paper will be 3 hours long.
- Question papers (except Indian Language and Literature) will be in English.

General Instructions (for both Preliminary and Main exams):
Read out the Important Instructions for both Preliminary and the Mains examination:
- Candidates must write answers by hand. Those with disabilities may be allowed a scribe or reader and extra time, as per the Commission’s guidelines.
- Marks will be deducted if a candidate’s handwriting is hard to read.
- Superficial knowledge will not earn marks.
- Credit will be given for clear, concise, and effective writing.
- Questions will use the Metric system of weights and measures, where applicable.
- Candidates must use International Indian numerals (1, 2, 3, etc.) in their answers.
- Non-programmable scientific calculators are allowed, but programmable calculators are not. Sharing calculators in the exam hall is not permitted.
- Calculators are not allowed for objective-type papers. Do not bring them to the exam hall.
