- The first Sylhet-Silchar Festival celebrating the close cultural ties between the neighbouring regions of India and Bangladesh will begin in Assam’s Barak Valley on December 02, 2022.
- Bangladesh Foreign Affairs Minister A K Abdul Momen will lead a delegation of around 75 members, which will include ministers, businessmen and cultural icons, to attend the two-day event.

- It is being organised by India Foundation under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Culture in association with the Bangladesh Foundation for Regional Studies.

What is the idea behind Sylhet-Silchar Festival 2022?
- The year 2022 marks 75 years of India’s Independence, a historic event that permanently changed the lives of inhabitants on both sides of the border.
- This year is also the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Bangladesh from Pakistan.
- The Government of India is observing the 75th year of independence, as “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav”, to commemorate and celebrate the journey of Independent India.
- So, the event(Sylhet-Silchar Festival 2022) will commemorate 75 years of India’s Independence and 50th anniversary of Bangladesh’s liberation from Pakistan.

- After the partition in 1947, the Sylhet district with majority of Muslim people of Assam became part of East Pakistan and is currently a part of Bangladesh.
