UPPSC Exam Pattern 2024
Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission conducts the UPPSC Exam every year for various posts with the 2 Exam Pattern. The UPPSC Prelims Exam Pattern and Mains Exam Pattern. The Preliminary Exam deals with General Studies and CSAT (Civil Service Aptitude Test). As part of the Main Exam, descriptive papers focus on specific knowledge. The UPPSC Preliminary Exam is objective and consists of two papers—General Studies Paper 1 and General Studies Paper 2 (CSAT). UPPSC Prelims Exam Pattern 2024
The UPPSC Prelims Exam Pattern is the initial phase of the UP PSC Exam 2024. Its main purpose is to act as a qualifying stage, filtering out candidates not genuinely dedicated to the selection process. The UPPSC PCS Preliminary examination consists of papers: Papers I and II. Each paper is worth 200 marks and the paper includes multiple-choice questions (MCQs). Paper 1 focuses on topics such as Current Events of National and International importance, Ancient, Medieval, and Modern History, Indian and World Geography, and others. Meanwhile, Paper 2 assesses comprehension, interpersonal skills, general mental ability, elementary mathematics, logical reasoning, and language skills in English and Hindi. UPPSC PCS Marking Scheme for Prelims
- In the UPPSC PCS Preliminary Exam, Paper 1 consists of 150 questions carrying a total of 200 marks, and candidates are given 2 hours to complete the exam.
- Paper 2 has 100 questions, also carrying 200 marks, with the same 2-hour duration. General Studies Paper 2 (CSAT) is a qualifying paper, requiring to score at least 33%.
- Negative marking is applicable at 0.33% per incorrect answer.
- Paper I determines the exam cutoff.
- A negative marking of 0.33% applies to every incorrect answer.
- Marking multiple answers for one question on the OMR sheet counts as incorrect and incurs negative markings.
- No negative markings for questions left blank.
UPPSC Mains Exam Pattern 2024
Once candidates successfully clear the PCS preliminary examinations, they advance to the main examination. Here is an overview of the UPPSC Mains Exam Pattern 2024. It’s important to highlight that the scores obtained in the main exam hold substantial weightage for the final selection process. The main examination comprises eight descriptive papers, making it a crucial phase in the selection process as it carries a significant weightage of 1500 marks, thereby playing a pivotal role in determining the merit. Noteworthy revisions have been made to the UPPSC main exam pattern:
- The commission has eliminated objective-type questions, reverting to the descriptive-type questions format that was used previously, albeit with an increased number of papers.
- Additionally, an ‘Ethics’ paper has been introduced to the main exam, which was not part of the exam structure in the past.

UPPSC Optional Subject
This year, the UPPSC exam pattern has undergone a major change: optional papers in the mains exam have been replaced with two additional General Studies papers, GS Paper V and GS Paper VI.
UPPSC Interview Exam Pattern 2024
Candidates who qualify in the UPPSC Mains Exam are subsequently called for the UPPSC Interview Exam. It also known as the Personality Test. During this stage, the interview panel typically asks questions related to current events, the candidate’s graduation subjects, home district, personal interests, and hobbies. The aim of the UPPSC Interview is to evaluate the candidate’s personality. The interview board checks the right candidates for civil services. The Interview carries a total of 100 marks.
UPPSC Exam Negative Marking
In the UPPSC Prelims exam, there is a negative marking. If you answer a question incorrectly, 1/3rd (0.33) of the marks allotted to that question will be deducted. No marks are deducted for unanswered questions.
