Good news for UPPSC candidates. After four days of protests, the Uttar Pradesh government has agreed to conduct the Review Officer (RO) and Assistant Review Officer (ARO) exams in a single shift. Earlier, the UPPSC had planned to hold the exams in two shifts on 22 and 23 November 2024, due to the large number of candidates, which led to widespread protests. Thousands of students gathered in Prayagraj, demanding the exam be held in one shift without the normalization process.
UPPSC Protest
Students protesting outside the UP Public Service Commission (UPPSC) in Prayagraj. In a high-level meeting held under the chairmanship of Sanjay Shree Net, it was decided that the PCS examination would be held in one day and one shift.
UPPSC Formed the Committee
The UPPSC has formed a committee to review the RO-ARO exam pattern, and the exam has been postponed. The UPPSC has also decided, under CM Yogi Adityanath’s intervention, to hold the 2024 UP PCS prelims in one shift, as originally planned. However, a final decision on the RO-ARO 2023 exam has not yet been made, and it has been postponed from December.
Prayagraj DM Ravindra Kumar stated that UPPSC will soon announce the new exam date for the PCS. However, many students are unhappy with the committee’s formation, calling it a “divide and rule” tactic, and have vowed to continue their protests until a clear decision on RO-ARO is made.
Akhilesh Yadav Statement
Political leaders, including Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, have spoken out against the situation, calling it unfair. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also criticized the UP government’s handling of students’ demands, calling the “normalization” system unfair.
UPPSC Secretary Ashok Kumar stated that the change was made for better exam security, limiting test centers to government locations near district headquarters. However, students are not satisfied with this explanation and continue to demand a return to the one-day exam format, fearing that the multi-day setup will be unfair.
UPPSC Exam schedule Postponed
The UPPSC had originally scheduled the PCS prelims for December 7-8 and the RO/ARO exams for December 22-23. However, due to the protests, the Commission is rethinking these dates. A new committee will review the exam structure and schedule, considering the concerns of the students.
