On 20th September 2024, the UPSC began the Civil Services Main Examination by successfully conducting the UPSC mains essay paper 2024, the first of nine papers to be held by the commission at 24 exam centers across India. These exams will shortlist candidates for the final stage of the selection process, which is the interview stage, and unlike prelims, these exams will be accounted for in the final merit list of the UPSC Civil Service Examination.
