The responsibility of conducting the WBCS Exam lies with the West Bengal Public Service Commission. The WBCS Exam is structured into three stages: Preliminary, Main, and Interview. WBCS Prelims Exam Syllabus 2024
The preliminary examination of WBPCS takes place at various center within the districts of West Bengal. It’s important to highlight that the option to choose Darjeeling as a center is specifically available to individuals from the Scheduled Tribes of Darjeeling district and candidates from three distinct hill divisions: Darjeeling Sadar, Mirik, and Kurseong.
The WBCS Prelims Syllabus includes eight subjects or topics. The exam has 200 multiple-choice questions (MCQs), with each topic being worth 25 marks. You have 2.5 hours to complete the exam. The Prelims is a preliminary test to filter candidates, and its marks don’t count for the final selection. The commission has mentioned that the Prelims Exam assesses knowledge similar to that of a graduate from any recognized university, no matter the field of study.

WBCS Mains Exam Syllabus 2024
Candidates who will qualify the Prelims examination will move for the WBCS Mains exam and then for the interview round. WBCS Interview
After passing the WBCS Mains Exam, candidates enter the ‘Interview’ stage. A board appointed by the WBCS conducts these interviews to examine the candidates. The interviewers evaluate various aspects and candidate is not only examined for his/her knowledge but also for the personality he/she contains within themselves.
- The candidate meets a board that has information about their career and interests, as provided in the Detailed Application Form.
- The interview’s aim is to assess how well the candidate fits into the state services. This judgment comes from a panel of skilled and unbiased observers.
- Alongside their academic knowledge, candidates should be familiar with current events within and outside their state.
