Youth Co:Lab National Innovation Dialogue India: The Youth Co:Lab National Innovation Dialogue 2022 was an event focused on fostering innovation, collaboration, and youth empowerment. At the 5th Edition of Youth Co:Lab National Innovation Dialogue India, twelve leading start-ups from nine different Indian states were announced as winners. These start-ups are actively engaged in sectors such as agriculture, ed-tech, women’s livelihood, circular economy, and biodiversity. Their innovative solutions and contributions in these areas have been recognized and celebrated through this platform.

Background of Youth Co:Lab National Innovation Dialogue

Youth Co:Lab is a collaborative initiative formed in 2017 by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Citi Foundation. Its primary objective is to establish a shared agenda among countries in the Asia-Pacific region, focusing on empowering and investing in youth. By promoting leadership, social innovation, and entrepreneurship, Youth Co:Lab aims to accelerate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

  • In 2019, Youth Co:Lab was launched in India through a partnership with the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), which is an initiative of NITI Aayog.
  • This partnership aims to drive youth engagement, foster innovation, and create opportunities for young entrepreneurs to contribute to the implementation of the SDGs in India.
  • The latest edition of Youth Co:Lab, held for the year 2022-23, received an impressive response with 378 applications from entrepreneurs and innovators representing 28 states across the country.
  • This demonstrates the widespread interest and participation of youth in India towards creating sustainable impact and driving positive change in alignment with the SDGs.

National Innovation Dialogue 2022 Theme

During the Youth Co:Lab India 2022-23 edition, the focus was directed towards six specific thematic areas. These areas included:

  1. Digital and Financial Literacy for Youth
  2. Gender Equality and Women’s Economic Empowerment
  3. Development of FinTech Solutions with a focus on Biodiversity Conservation
  4. Promotion of Biodiversity-friendly Lifestyles through Technological Solutions in Finance
  5. Acceleration of Circular Economy through Upcycling Innovations
  6. Implementing Behavioral Nudges for LiFE (Lifestyle For Environment)

Youth Co:Lab Performance

Since its establishment in 2017, Youth Co:Lab has provided support to young social entrepreneurs across 28 countries and territories in Asia and the Pacific. Through a range of initiatives including national dialogues, regional summits, social innovation challenges, and workshops, Youth Co:Lab has successfully engaged and impacted a wide audience, with over 240,000 participants involved.

  • Furthermore, the initiative has prioritized the development of social innovation and entrepreneurial skills among youth, leading to the launch or enhancement of 1,530 youth-led social innovation teams.
  • Additionally, the national activities focused on youth social innovation and entrepreneurial skills development have served over 14,000 young individuals, equipping them with the necessary tools and knowledge to drive positive social change and contribute to sustainable development in their respective communities.
